Téo won.

Rockville Street Fair

We happened by a cute street fair in Rockville:

Lots of food very all kinds of countries. Hmm...

Téo shows off a bookmark he decorated himself.

"Hey look! It's broken with that crack there!"

He stayed about 2-3 minutes. A record. ;-)

Learning to play Blokus at a game club stand. Very cool game.

Visit to the Indian Museum

Before we go to the museum, a little fun in the Mall...
(Click photo to see a 4.7mb MPEG movie.)

And who says D.C. isn't swampy?

The front of the National Museum of the American Indian

The main hall, inside.

Some of the more memorable displays:

"Hey! I guess this isn't such an original idea after all..."

Cantler's Crabouse & Anapolis

Maryland's best secret: Cantler's Crabhouse:

Téo is ready with the hammer.

Bang. Crunch. Scoop. Dip, perhaps. Eat. Repeat.

Many, many times.

After crabs, savoring ice cream in Anapolis by the waterfront.

The Natural Bridge, VA

Though the entrance is a bit touristy, the formation itself is pretty impressive.

Notice how small deb is.

A Monacan Village is recreated a bit further down the walking path.

Watching drops of water fall from above, as if in slow motion.

Last Day on the Road

Téo's choice of bed for the night, over the nice full-size bed next to him. Window niches are just that much cooler...

Back in the car, Téo decides to become a pirate, and pirates have beards, and beards are grown by pen, and we laughed for 1/2 hour when we noticed.

Tennessee

We started out the day in Memphis, at the western end of the state.

The country here is very lush, and some areas are downright swampy, like this stretch of the I-40 between Memphis and Nashville.

This is the Tennessee River, from where the state gets its name...

View of Nashville's skyline.

After a day of non-stop driving (500 miles), we stopped to have some fun in a nice warm pool. Téo needed the exercise, too.

Tomorrow, we cross Virginia, to DC. Final stretch. Might stop by some caverns or the arch.

Memphis, TN

Spent the night there. Have to make a decision: Shall we back-track during rush hour to go see the Mississippi, river boats, and Beale St.? hmmm.... let's not and say we did. Moving on.

Little Rock, Arkansas

Passed by Little Rock Arkansas. Here are some views:

No idea why the Pig is revered. But, there it is...

Huge barges carry goods (dirt cheap, I guess. Haha.) up the Arkansas River.

TX to AK to NM

Desert brush gives way to dry pine forests (Ozarks) and then lush green hills.

Amarillo, TX

We spent the second night in Amarillo, Texas. By chance, Ken and Brenda were also on the 40, and we were able to meet them right outside Amarillo in the morning. We didn't tell Téo...

At first, he was speechless. Then he couldn't stop talking. Probably didn't know what to do... ;-)

Then he got to ride until the next rest area with Grandma and Grandpa in their truck.
